Quick Louisiana Son's Observation

This quick post goes out to Mrs. Lord and Mz. Plummer...

I do a lot of living on the Louisiana Secretary of State's website, and I have to say it's much more stern, drab, and boring - lost some zest, if you will, since this very colorful late LA Secretary of State passed on.

Nothing against Al Ater, just for someone who through his career frequented his cyber-territory, I miss Fox.

Deceptive trickery or clever parenting?

Since beginning my healthy lifestyle and natural foods kick, I've researched ways to get a healthy sweet-tooth fix. I'm a chocoholic and have overindulged in refined sugar, but now I've pretty successfully modified my tastes to prefer unprocessed sweet stuff - i.e. if I need any "sugar," I'd prefer to use as raw a form as possible of evaporated cane juice or honey...anyway, I'm chasing rabbits...

National TV Turn-off Week

We unplugged our cable from the back of the TV last night in order to make it a little more difficult to just sit in front of it for hours every evening. We realized that many areas of our life were suffering because we were watching so much TV. And not even stuff we were that interested in. It just seems like once it is on it stays on. Being grumpy with your kids b/c you didn't get enough sleep b/c you stayed up til midnight watching "101 more things removed from the human body" or "The 160 lb. tumor" on TLC is not a good thing. Nothing wrong with the shows but know when to turn it off already, ya know? Haven't picked up a book in weeks, Bible in weeks, blogged in weeks, etc.
Found out today that, guess what? it's National TV Turn-off Week. Go us. We were one step ahead of the game or at least in step and didn't even know it. It's crazy that when you are watching and watching it seems so important not to miss that show, but when you finally manage to hit the power button suddenly it isn't so important anymore. Evening programming falls at such a bad time anyways, esp. since it is later in the day before the sun goes down. Now shows we would want to watch take place during dinner and Daddy's time with the kids. Bathtime and Bedtime happen during commercials. That will really make you feel guilty. So for now, we are trying life without much TV.
Tonight while the TV didn't reign Daddy and Peanut made Dinosaur Droppings. (very healthy nut/date mixture balls with 2yr. old-boy-enticing-name) There is a website all about this novel idea of turning off the TV that I found. I was surprised that it wasn't affiliated with Focus on the Family or something like that. Nope, it's just a grassroots organization trying to "save lives by getting people to turn off the TV and turn on life." Anyway, I'm going to go eat some dinner now...That's all folks!

You lost this sale Wal-Mark

Lexie has weaned herself this past week and so now we are doing formula. This is the kind I have been using and I have been using the small can they sell at Super 1 b/c it was easier to swallow a 6.99$ can than a 21.99$ can. It has gone up since Stephen was on formula. Seems like I remember it only being around 13.99$ then. Anyways, today I went to Wal-Mart and priced their big can and it was 24 oz powder for 21.99$. I just couldn't do it. Buying 2 small cans was so much cheaper even if it was a trip to another store. (something I usually avoid b/c it takes too long getting them both out of their carseats- dragging 2 bebes brings new meaning to just running in) I mean check my math: Super 1 has the 12 oz cans for 6.99 which would be around 15.00 with tax right? So, I left Wal-Mart and headed for Super 1 to stock up on the little cans. The little cans were being clearanced for 3.50$ Not sure why. Cashier didn't know either. The dates on the bottom said May 2007 and it's powder so it's not going to go bad or anything, right? Anyways, I bought the 6 cans they had on the shelf and she even threw in two coupons. Long story short- I got 72 oz of powder formula for 17.95$ (tax included) instead of going the easy way with W.M. and getting only 24 oz for 21.99$. Go me, go me, go me! Sorry, I'm excited about my savings. Maybe I can use my savings to get some hanging ferns for my front porch like I've been wanting too...

testing...It worked!

Ok, here is a video of the kids. Mostly I grabbed this one to be able to show everybody Lexie crawling. She makes pretty good time for army crawling. Sometimes she tries to get up on her knees and she is even trying to pull up on stuff a little bit. Check Stephen out in the background too. He is so fast we are calling him Dash from The Incredibles!

If all you get is sound and not picture then you need to go download the newest Flash player here. I'm excited we can do this. More videos will definitely coming!

The closest thing to cardboard intended for human consumption...

I know I need to update my weight loss chronicle, I've made good progress...just been so extremely busy and I'm hoping for even better news to post after the weigh-in tomorrow morning. But a little something related:

I had some coupons for some Endangered Species chocolate - which is EXCELLENT stuff - and their Tiger Bar is dark chocolate with espresso beans - needed to be up to work on some tax returns - explains why I'm still up...anyway, I went to the Olde Wheat Barn (a terrific place to be situated in Ruston - small town version of this *drool* - which I really want) to pick up the chocolate and a few other things.

On a back endcap, the excellent Olde Wheat Barn always stacks a bunch of products reduced for quick sale - usually a really good deal. As a main focus of my new lifestyle is an increased fiber intake with the fewest calories, the product pictured above caught my eye. "Scandinavian Bran Crispbreads." Ooh, not "crackers," but "crispbreads"!! And they're Scandinavian to boot! Tagline is "for fitness and health." Marked down to $0.50 a bag, I thought they were worth a try...I'm really digging the being adventurous part of this new lifestyle - new staples in the house include tempeh, edamame, cashew butter, and medjool dates (great sweetener!). So, uh..after today's little Scandinavian import adventure, the above post-title will suffice as a review. Ingredients: unprocessed bran, rye, salt.
