The finished product
So we have pretty much finished the bathroom and it is a crying shame that is took us moving to do this. But here is a pic of the finished product.

Nathan update

Well, we are definitely in the home stretch. The 2nd trimester has flown by so fast. (also read the summer has flown by so fast!) I had a check-up this past friday and things are going great. My blood pressure has been perfect this pregnancy, Praise the Lord. My glucose test came out fine and I haven't gained as much weight as I did with the other two by this point.
This baby boy is very active. I think he is practicing for keeping up with the other two before he even gets here. I really don't remember the other two being quite this active in utero. And this scares me just a little if I dwell on it.
Most days I feel great. Then I do too much (or so I am told) and spend a day or two doing not much of anything. I have moved Lexie out of the crib, so it stands empty waiting for it's newest occupant. It is driving me crazy that I can't pick what bumper pads/theme/direction I want to go in order to have the bed fully ready. It doesn't matter that he will probably sleep in the bassinet in our room until January. Don't try to reason with a pregnant woman. I have also been organizing toys, getting rid of toys, and separating out the baby toys from all of the other toys. These have been cleaned and refreshed and assembled in the top of the nursery closet waiting to be played with again.
Thank you so much to the Shipp's for the very welcome addition of some fall/winter newborn boy clothes, something we were lacking- both of our kids having been summer babies. I think I will get out the baby boy blankets/burp cloths box out of the shed this week and get those washed and in the dresser.
My brain swims with projects to do. How many will get done? I don't know. How many need to get done? I don't know. With the potential life-changing shake-up next summer I am wanting to empty and go through essentially everything we own. Getting rid of stuff, selling stuff on Ebay and organizing stuff to the point where it cannot be organized anymore. That cannot happen before this baby gets here. In fact, I'm not sure if it can be done at all. In order to take a half step in any direction with that plan I have to take a step back. Resulting in the which I don't have the foggiest where to start or step. And my all encompassing/organizing/cleaning machine is beginning to overheat with the stalled frustration. But suddenly this post is more about something other than Nathan. Can't wait for Nathan to get here. It would be easier to do all of this if he were in a sling rather than inside me. But he has a few more weeks to grow and get fat. I go back to the doctor on the 20th and will take care of registering at the hospital and with the anesthesiologist. That makes things feel very close indeed. But then when I think about school starting and the holidays things feel very far away...

Happy Birthday, Superboy!

Wow, Stephen is 4. He has been asking me since Thursday (Lexie's bday) if he was 4 yet. This morning I could finally tell him he was 4. How has it been 4 years since this:
We love you Superboy!!!!

ultrasound pics
We went to the ultrasound for the new baby on Monday morning. Due to scheduling difficulties I am a good 5 weeks later than when we had ultrasounds with the other two munchkins so that made the picture only that much better because he is so much bigger. Yes, I said he. I know we have been telling everybody that we were going to let this one be a surprise, but we couldn't do it. Brad was the one who really wanted the surprise. But the morning of the ultrasound Brad saw some of the pictures of Stephen from the hospital hanging in the hallway and noticed the picture of Stephen in the special pre-selected to go home from the hospital outfit and that started him thinking. How would we do little things like that if we didn't know what this baby was? It was all downhill for him from there. I am not disappointed that it will be a surprise. I have really enjoyed picking our kids' names the day we found out their gender and making everything special just for them before they get here. It felt like we already knew who they were and had bonded with them before we ever even got to the hospital. That is just the way we like it.
Stephen and Lexie went with us to the ultrasound and that actually worked out really well. It made it a little harder on daddy not being able to devote all of his attention to what was on the screen, but hey aren't we just adding one more to juggle? Lexie didn't know what was really going on, though she kept saying 'baby.' Stephen, I think, followed stuff much better. This baby being bigger was easier to see and identify. I think Stephen was able to see the face and arms and things. When the technician told us that it was a boy (something we could clearly see for ourselves!) Stephen was excited. He told us right then and there that he was going to teach this baby to tee-tee standing up. Good for him. Isn't that the job of every big brother everywhere?
We are very excited. I had been feeling like it was a boy all along anyways. She would have had a hard time convincing me that it was a girl. His measurements all averaged out to move up my due date a little bit which makes me very happy. So now we know we are expecting Nathan Isaiah sometime around October the 1st!!!

Or does Stephen look just like Macauley Culkin from Home Alone? I have noticed the resemblence before now, but this photo really captures it!

This is us "practicing" on baby Bairno what it might be like to have 3 around here. He was pretty good, the kids thought having him was pretty cool too. But I still don't know if I'm ready for this!

Well, how do you eat a cookie with icing in the middle?

I think I have the beginnings of a gamer on my hands. I put shortcut links on our desktop to PBSkids, PlayhouseDisney, and Sesame Street.com. He can get on here and set himself up playing quite a few of the games and animated stories. Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes not so much. We have trouble with when it's time to get off.

We do things to our kids just so we can laugh at them.

I don't know what the term for "completely sticker obsessed and willing to be covered in them from head to toe" is but if anybody else does let me know.

Home Improvements
Where to start, well we started ripping up carpet quite a few months back and thought we could live with that. But it didn't rip up so easy and where we pulled up the tackboards it chipped the linoleum and the concrete and left all of the edges looking pretty yucky. So we decided to go ahead with our renovation plans. Then we knocked down a wall. What wall you may ask? Why the half wall with the 1970's jail bars of course! We had been saying that wall was coming down since we first saw the house over 3 years ago. Man, it really opens things up and gives us so much room!

wall

no wall

old floor

new floor and a view of the paint job in the living room

last of the floor going in and a view of the paint job for the dining room

all new crown molding, and new beadboard wainscotting in the hallway (now painted navy blue.)

a little helper
So this is all one of the many reasons you haven't been seeing much activity around the Lesbourgeoisie cyberspace. We have been pulling lots of late nights for several weeks now trying to work on all of this. Brad and crew (thank you so much all of you for your hard work) put in the hardwood floors. We also got new carpet from Lowes put in the bedrooms last week. It has felt like a war zone around here. Stirring my coffee with a paint stick and picking pacifiers out of plates of nails and hinges and stuffs! All of us were coming down sick and realized that Christmas was fast approaching. So while we have lots of finishing touches to work on have put away our gear and tools until after the New Year in order to get back in touch as a family and get ready for Christmas. I will post more finished pictures later.

Recent hairtrends of the Bourgeoisie
Yeah, Lexie actually has enough hair to do pigtails! Getting her to let me put them in is another story. But I did and I got some pictures. To understand my jubilation you will have to see some pictures of me at this age. (and even much older. took me a while to learn how to grow hair) Anyways, with all the attention focused on Lexie and pigtails and Lexie and the bows of course Stephen would want his own share of this attention. But boys don't wear bow or pigtails, so hmmmm, what can we do? Being the resourceful and creative mommy that I am---We spike his hair up. So Brad put gel in Stephen's hair and spiked it up. Absolutely precious if you ask me. So here ya go, the most current hairtrends of the Bourgeoisie.

First Day of School

Stephen started school yesterday. He will be going 3 days a week this year. I think it will be good, but it is really weird having him gone 3 days in a row. (last year it was just tues. and thurs.) His teacher is Mrs. Misty and she seems really great. He cried when I left him yesterday, but she said later when I picked him up that he quit pretty soon after and joined them in 'circle time' for a story. He seemed fine when I picked him up and was very informative about his day. (that is a great improvement over last year. last year I had to read his take home reports and then question him. mostly all I got were yes or no answers. I know a year in his age makes a big difference, but sometimes this stuff just sneaks up on you. Just when you think you know what they are capable of it changes.) He told me about playing on the playground and going to sleep and that he painted me a big red apple.
He is a big boy now. Seems to be doing fine with going potty at school. No accidents yet. (hallelujah!)
So far Lexie hasn't really had a chance to miss him. When we get home from dropping Stephen off it is time for her nap. Then it is a late lunch and off again to pick him up.

Well, you might not can tell, but this is a picture of him from his first day of school last year. He looks so little. And now he is so big and grown-up. Sniff. Ok I don't usually do this, but gosh it can getcha sometimes, ya know?

Care for a piece of Octopus anyone?
So, Stephen wanted an octopus/ shark birthday party. The shark was covered by the blow-up pool and the pinata. That left the cake being an octopus. I kinda had an idea in my head for how I could pull off an octupus using cupcakes for the tentacles. It worked. I was so pumped. I googled octupi cakes and didn't get much in the way of anything. Very disappointing. The body of the cake is a formula can that just baked with a dome shape at the top naturally. Then I just tapered the tentacles with big and mini cupcakes. That icing under any other circumstances (besides octupi or maybe halloween) would have been extremely disturbing, but worked great for Mr. Octo here. I had hoped to put the face on him with icing instead of candy, but as you can see in the pictures, the icing is drooping because it is melting. It was seriously that hot that day and in our house. I think on a cooler day with a better icing situation it could have come out even cuter. As well as with Lexie's starfish. But ya know it tasted great and almost all of it got eaten. Stephen was thrilled and now when somebody googles 'octopus cake' that will actually a pretty good idea of how to make one. if I do say so myself.

We didn't catch a picture of Lexie smiling. But she did like her cake. She was just so hot. Eventually that cake ended up a big pile of mush. I think she ate a good bit of it. And she shared with the other babies (Bryce and Natalie)in high chairs on either side of her. It was good practice for them since both of them have their big 1st bdays coming up soon.
